Little J's 3rd Birthday Party

What a nice day to celebrate turning 3.

Laura planned a nice party with lots of food, swimming and fun. As you can see Rendan was his usual silly self. Cousin Greta was passed around to everyone and was certainly a hit at the party. Laura worked herself silly. Rendan and Cousin Josie had big fun with their costly shades. And apparently Josie had her first taste of popcorn. Not sure if she like it or not.

Rendan sure likes spending time with his cousins. He doesn't understand why they all have to live so far from him.

Fun in the sun....

Pictures speak volumes and these are no different. We had a fun couple of hours swimming at Mema's house. Wish we could have spent a little longer with Cousins Zach and Jessi.
Zach spent a lot of time diving, doing cannonballs and learning how to do jack knives.
Jessi enjoyed diving and jumping of the side. She's doing great in the water.
Rendan too enjoyed his version of diving and jumping like a wild man. I particularly liked the jump from the side holding one ankle with the other hand behind his head busting a dance move on the way into the water. It's one you need to see to believe.

March of Dimes....Reception and Awards

Rendan's Raisers

Rendan's Raisers walked back in April in the Triange WalkAmerica. Our team did great raising almost $3,000. We had a wonderful walk day with nice weather and even better company. More than 5,000 walkers came out to support the March of Dimes mission to help fight prematurity.
Collectively, we raised $524,000 for the March of Dimes!! Simply amazing. It feels good to live in a community of people that will show their support in such a generous way to help babies, who have absolutely now way to help themselves.

Tonight was the awards ceremony and our team was recognized in the Bronze Circle of Champions, meaning we raised between $1,000 and $5,000. Tim, Rendan and I were recognized as Silver Circle of Champions as we individually raised more than $1,000. Marc and Regina both raised over $500 and are recognized in the Circle of Champions as well. We thank all of you that supported our fundraising efforts. We also were honored and humbled by the support of our friends and family that took the extra step of helping us by fundraising within their circle of friends and co-workers. We are truly blessed to have such caring and supportive friends and family.

A little known piece of information......Each year Corporate and Family teams have a t-shirt design contest. This year since we had our own team Tim and I decided we needed a t-shirt for our walkers to wear. Tim put on his creative hat and I worked on the layout. The result of our efforts won us 3rd place in the family, small business division. The design is...well I'll let you determine for yourselves. You may have to click on the picture to see the design.

Greta Afton

It never ceases to amaze me when I have opportunity to hold a newborn. It was a pleasure for us to meet the newest member of the clan. Greta Afton joined the world on June 6th, weighing in at 7 lbs 5 oz. Mom, Dad, baby and big sister are all adjusting to the family addition. Greta is beautiful and we can't wait to spoil her. Rendan wanted to take her home, and we feared the begging for a baby brother or sister would commence immediately upon our departure. However, he fell asleep about 5 minutes after we departed so we caught a break this time. Rendan and Josefina played hard the entire time we were there and I think he was pooped when we left. Auntie Dawn was in hog heaven and Uncle T got to recall his small baby holding techniques. Thanks to Phil and Laura for letting us barge in for a visit- we love you guys.

Camping at Pirateland

We decided to celebrate the end of school and the start of summer by taking a trip to Myrtle Beach, SC. MeMa has a camper at Pirateland so we stuffed ourselves in her 1 bedroom camper. Families that camp together stay together....isn't that how the saying goes. Camping beside us was MeMa's cousin Brady and his wife Myrtle. It was fun for all as we spent time on the beach, at the pool, in the lazy river, and sitting camp side. We made lots of great tasting dinners and capped off each evening with a trip, by golf cart, up to the ice cream stand. We all hated for our time at the beach to end. The one bright spot to the end of the camping was that we were going to make a trip down to Charleston before heading home to meet the newest Overcash member, Greta. We'll do another post to introduce you to her.

Last Day of School....Yippee!!

We officially and successfully completed 2nd grade- so did Rendan. Today was the last day of school and Rendan's class celebrated with an ice cream party this afternoon. The kids were completely wild and I don't know how Mrs. Murray is able to do what she does every day. The hour I was there wore me out!! Rendan had a great year and is looking forward to his summer break, although tonight he said he was ready to start school at Salem. We were reassigned to Salem Elementary for the next school year and we will be on a year round calendar. Rendan starts class on July 30th. He is on track 4 which starts last, so he's got a long summer compared to the other tracks. Hopefully, we will get a chance to see a lot of you over what summer break we have.

I CAN SEE....

Well the surgery is over and I can see better today than I could yesterday with my glasses on. Apparently, although I don't remember a thing, I had quite a recovery day dealing with slaying dragons, staring monkeys and rude aliens. The stories sounds hilarious, but I'm not entirely sure that my friends aren't making it up. All I can say is Ambien is my friend!! My post-op appointment that lasted about 2 seconds was good. Dr. Stonecipher said everything looks good and I'm free to take a shower (just what everyone wants to hear). He said my eye hickies (that's right) should clear up soon. Had Donella been with me when he said that there would have been more than one of us laughing. The surgeon re-explained that I have some bruises (hickies, his word) are from the suction rings they used to make the flap. Anyway, I'm doing fine and it was absolutely wonderful to see the clock across the room this morning without putting on my glasses. That is something I have never been able to do as far back as I can remember. Thanks for all your calls, your thoughts and jokes are much appreciated.

The picures above were taken post op. The one in the background is right after and the one in the forefront was taken the morning after. And yes I was attempting to smile in the first one, the tape made it a bit difficult.

Camping with The Durham Bulls

The Boy Scouts had a camp out with the Durham Bulls on Friday June 1. It sounds that it was a lot of fun for everyone and no sleep for most everyone. The evening started with a parade of Boy Scouts followed by a baseball game. Once the park was cleared the outfield turned into a tent haven. Rendan said the best part was the big screen TV that was playing the Cartoon channel. Mom spent the evening at home with no big plans a all. I believe that I fell asleep in front of the TV about 8:30, moved to my bedroom at 10:30 and woke up when Rendan came in to let me know they were home at 9:00 am Saturday. All around a good evening : )
